Schwab interns talk about their summer experience.

Interning at Schwab has allowed me to get a sense of the corporate world, make connections and friends, and get a better understanding of my interests after college.

Intern Activities

The most recent group of Schwab interns included 52 college students who worked in San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Orlando, Austin, Indianapolis, Reno and West Palm Beach.

Orientation at each location included various team-building exercises, ranging from bowling in Austin and Phoenix to an "Amazing Race"-style competition in San Francisco. At the end of the day, San Francisco interns dropped by Pier 39 for pizza before boarding a catamaran for a cruise along the bay.

"Orientation was a great place to start getting to know the other interns here at Schwab. We had the opportunity to bring out our competitive drive, work as a team and, most importantly, develop a better understanding of departments within Schwab."

Community service projects included serving food to the homeless at Glide Memorial United Methodist Chuch in San Francisco and teaching a financial program to teens at Big Brothers, Big Sisters in Richfield, OH.

"Schwab gave me the opportunity to participate in events beyond the workplace.  I enjoyed working in the community and learned to take a step outside my comfort zone to be a part of something greater than myself."

Throughout the summer, "Schwinterns" gathered in conference rooms or dialed in from their desks to view brown bag web presentations. Schwab employees shared information on financial fitness, the schwab.com website, the Schwab brand and other company topics.

"The brown bag presentations gave me valuable insight to parts of the company that I didn't know much about. I enjoyed furthering my understanding of the big picture of Schwab by hearing about topics ranging from marketing to the website. The presentations also brought the interns together so we could learn from and get to know each other."

At Work

"Interning at Schwab was a rewarding experience. The people I met here were warm and insightful, and the environment is exciting and dynamic. Schwab really portrays all the qualities I was looking for in a company."

"It is rewarding to know that the work you do as an intern has an impact on Schwab. Everyone is willing to help you succeed in what you do. Meeting with executives and learning about their career paths – many of which surprisingly began just like mine – gave me confidence to know I will survive in the so-called 'real world.'"
